Balancing Output with Input

Today, I’m happy to share a piece I wrote for Spirituality & Health magazine—Leaning Into the Back Side of Your Chakrasthat features a delightful practice I’ve been doing to help me balance my continuous output (everything I do in the world) with sufficient input (re-fueling, nourishment and rest).

This was an especially fun and fulfilling project, because it gave me the opportunity to interview Wendy De Rosa, founder of the School of Intuitive Studies and author of the groundbreaking new book, Becoming an Empowered Empath: How to Clear Energy, Set Boundaries & Embody Your Intuition. This article is the first of two featuring Wendy. Diving into her teachings has been a wonderful initiation into working with my chakras for balance, healing, and staying connected to Source energy.

If you’re not familiar with chakras, they are the energetic power centers in our bodies first written about in ancient Vedic Hindu texts thousands of years ago, often described as wheels of energy. We each have seven chakras, starting with the root chakra (located at our tailbone), followed by the sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, third eye chakra, and finally the crown chakra, which sits just on top of our head.

Wendy explains that our energy system underlies our nervous system and carries a tremendous amount of information about our history and the way we operate in the world. In her book, she teaches us how to release old energy imprints stored in our chakras that are creating blockages, and also how to consciously welcome in pure divine energies that support our vitality and wellbeing. What has been feeling especially potent and illuminating for me about Wendy’s practices are the opportunities they offer to do a thorough inventory of myself by tuning into the various qualities of each chakra—sensing where I’m stuck or contracted, and where I have ease and flow.

Leaning into the Back Side of Your Chakras includes a lovely 6-minute “Waterfall of Grace” chakra balancing guided visualization that Wendy led me through. I’m including the link below because I hope some of you will try it. It’s a quick, effective practice that will help ground you and bring you back into balance, and it feels wonderful. Enjoy!
