Choosing Joy

This week, I feel moved to share three quotes that get me thinking and smiling. They remind me of my father because he lived as if happiness was his North Star. When something got in the way of his ability to truly enjoy and savor his life, he applied his inventor’s mind to investigating the problem, and always started by looking within with courage and honesty.

My father discovered early on that it was usually his conditioned beliefs and automatic responses that were causing his problems, and that he had the power to change them. A huge theme of his life was liberation, and he worked hard at it. The rewards he reaped were priceless—a life filled with peace, love, connection, and pure delight.

As I get older and a bit more self-aware, I recognize that so many of my habitual patterns that cause suffering trace back to my earliest conditioning and my relationship with my mother. Exploring these patterns has been a huge focus for me lately and extremely enlightening, so I am especially excited about our free Quest writing workshop tomorrow, Saturday, November 6—Unraveling the Mother Knot with Words and Stories—which will be taught by my brilliant writing mentor, the best-selling author, Laura Davis.

People fly across the world to attend Laura’s workshops, so this free two-hour class is an extra special opportunity. Laura insists that you don’t have to consider yourself a writer to participate. In fact, Laura was the person who taught the very first writing workshop I attended, and it changed my life by opening the floodgates to long-repressed memories—and giving me a venue in which to investigate and process them. I credit Laura with turning me into a writer, and Quest for Eternal Sunshine would not be here without her. I’d love for you to join us tomorrow so you, too, can experience what a wonderful teacher she is.  It’s free and it only takes seconds to sign up!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that the following quotes inspire you to appreciate the present moment and lean into joy.
