Aligning With Our Destiny
Today I want to share the story of my relationship with life coach and channel medium, Bonnie Wirth, who will be leading our free “Healing the Worry Habit” online workshop on April 15, because it winds through parts of my personal journey that I haven’t shared before.
Bonnie, along with Tina Powers, is one of the two gifted mediums I worked with while writing Quest for Eternal Sunshine—a posthumous collaboration with my father, completed many years after he passed. Although Tina and Bonnie were both almost magically available to me exactly when I needed them during the writing process, they typically book ten to twelve months out.
Last year, when I reached out to schedule with Bonnie, I was told she wasn’t offering single appointments because she was dedicating all her time to people enrolled in her “Soul Immersion” mentoring program—a series of eight consecutive sessions created to help people “cross the threshold” of self-realization and personal empowerment.
What motivated me to sign up for Bonnie’s program was astrological: I knew that I was at the peak of my second Saturn return—a time when the universe asks us to make healing and growth a top priority so we can reach our highest potential and align with our truest destiny.
In astrology, Saturn is the planet of life lessons. I often think of Saturn as our hardest teacher—the one who keeps returning our term paper until we finally hand in our best work. Being in a Saturn return means that Saturn, having completed a full orbit around the Sun, has once again returned to where it was positioned when we were born. A Saturnian year takes an average of 29.5 years (compared to a 12-month Earth year), but it can take as short as 27.5 years and as long as 30. This means that most of us experience our Saturn returns at the end of our 20s, 50s, and 80s—ages that tends to mark major life phase transitions.
When we’re in our Saturn return, Saturn relentlessly challenges us to evolve and mature. This can mean new challenges, deep healing excavations, and being pushed to persevere despite discomfort and deep-rooted fears. Saturn is tough and unrelenting, but dedicated to our long-term best interest. Saturn isn’t concerned with how hard we struggle, just that we keep moving forward toward creating our best life. This is why my second Saturn return felt like a most auspicious time to have a mentor with a direct connection to spirit!
When I was 29, my first Saturn return centered around becoming the mother of two, while nurturing the rapid growth of our organic farming business, Earthbound Farm, which helped move organic from the scoffed fringe to mainstream. My second Saturn return has been focused on more consciously and confidently stepping into my new calling of writing about and sharing my discoveries relating to ways to heal and grow, which includes learning about ancient arts like astrology and ways to connect with unseen realms.
Working closely with Bonnie (who I learned about from my friend, master astrologer Debra Silverman) was enriching on many levels. I had regular conversations with my dad, where he gave me guidance and left me filled with light and love. We worked on releasing the energetic cords tying me to the Holocaust, and also on developing more trust in my intuition. Little bits of Bonnie’s advice have stuck and had a big effect, such as subbing in “get to” for “have to” when it comes to many of my tasks, which often immediately transforms burden into gratitude.
During our first session, Bonnie focused on my creativity, clearly sensing that channeling it all into writing essays on my laptop wasn’t sufficient. In the past, I’d loved to throw pots, make jewelry, create collages, knit and crochet, but I hadn’t worked with my hands like that for a long time. Right after that session, I had a burst of inspiration: Although I’d never learned how to play an instrument, I decided to start playing the guitar! Now, almost a year later, guitar is one of the biggest joys of my life. It has also become the quickest and most enjoyable way for me to settle my nervous system and deeply relax.
Wanting to share Bonnie’s gifts with more people, I invited her to lead a workshop on healing the worry habit, and I’m thrilled that she agreed. Breaking entrenched patterns relating to worry can be extremely challenging and complex. Our worry habits often trace back to our earliest conditioning, intergenerational inheritances, personal trauma, and simply living in such an unpredictable world where we regularly witness and experience heartbreak. Having Bonnie’s wisdom—which always includes help from realms beyond our own—offers a unique and powerful opportunity for healing.
Next week, I’ll be sharing an article I wrote for Spirituality & Health magazine featuring Bonnie’s wisdom about how to heal the worry habit. Learning to let go of worry—to spend more time savoring our lives instead of being stuck in fear—can help free us to embody our highest potential and live our most joyful life. I’m still working on it, which is why I’m looking forward to learning more from Bonnie on April 15. If worrying is an issue in your life, please join us!
