Pause: Sense the Support of the Earth
In a world that often seems to shift beneath our feet, it can be deeply comforting to remember that no matter what’s going on, the Earth is always right beneath us, holding us close through the strength of gravity. When we pause long enough to tune into the Earth’s calm, nourishing energy, we can stop straining like Atlas in our vain attempts to hold everything up on our own, and instead relax more fully into the present moment.
Today’s two-minute “Take A Moment” micro-meditation—Sense Your Body Supported—invites us to focus our awareness downward, to where our body meets the surfaces that hold us. Mindfulness teacher and therapist Katie Dutcher reminds us that the chair we’re sitting on is resting on a floor that is supported by the structure of a building and its foundation—all of which sit securely on the Earth. It’s an important reminder that even when life feels fast or uncertain, the ground is still there, always quietly offering us steadiness, stability and peace.
