Pause: Rest as a Lake
Today, I’m happy to share one of my favorite meditations from our “Take a Moment” micro-meditations series, “Rest as a Lake.” It feels almost miraculous how calm and relaxed I become in just two short minutes when I’m guided to imagine a lake and embody its serene energy.
When I was a teenager living in an eleventh-floor apartment in Manhattan surrounded by concrete and unrelenting city noise, my parents bought a little A-frame house in the countryside of Southampton that sat on the edge of a pond. How I loved it there!
In the summer, I’d walk down a steep hill to our little wooden dock, where a rowboat was waiting for me. Every day, I’d set out on multiple excursions, feeling so happy gliding through the water, surrounded on all sides by verdant trees, often navigating thick clusters of lily pads.
When I look back at my life in search of times when I felt peaceful and safe, I often find myself back on that dock, warmed by the sun, gently rocked by the water. This meditation brings me right back to that wonderful feeling.
I hope you give “Rest as a Lake” a try and enjoy it as much as I do. I promise it’s one of the most enjoyable, relaxing, and restorative ways to spend two minutes!
